William Shum (Hong Kong)

William Shum, professional architect, non-professional photographer. Based in Hong Kong, William Shum spent his childhood in the street, observing the human drama around. In hope of sharing the idiosyncrasy of the worldly beauty with a larger audience, this hobby in recent years turned into a career of “phonetography” — teaching photography with cell phones, through which he has made friends and spreaded positive messages.

In 2016, William set up William Shum Phonetography and since then has hosted numerous courses, tours and exhibitions, amassing thousands of enthusiasts. His works have been regularly shortlisted in both local and international photography contests and are prize-winning in Prix de la Photographie Paris (PX3), Tokyo International Foto Awards (TIFA), and National Geographic Hong Kong Photo Contest 2020, with awards being won in some of them. 

Living on a quiet island with his wife, he now devotes his time to pursuing the meaning of life.
